You know the pattern. Coffee at 9. Unstoppable at 9:20. Staring blankly at a spreadsheet by 11:30, wondering why your own name looks wrong.
That’s the crash. And no, you’re not being dramatic.
What’s actually happening
Caffeine doesn’t create energy. It blocks the signals that tell your brain you’re tired. Those signals (a compound called adenosine) keep building up in the background. When the caffeine wears off, they arrive all at once, like emails after a long weekend.
Add a sugary latte, a drive-through muffin, or a fourth cup because the third “didn’t count,” and the dip can hit harder. Caffeine affects everyone differently, so your crash may not look like your coworker’s. But if coffee leaves you jittery, then flat, it might be worth a change.
What to try instead
You don’t have to break up with caffeine. You might just try a different relationship.
- The Recovering Achiever: This green tea is bright, clean, and generally lower in caffeine than coffee. A good place to start if you want a gentler lift.
- French Earl Grey: It's still a proper cup of black tea, with bergamot doing the heavy lifting on flavour. Great with breakfast.
- Canadian Breakfast: This tea contains the highest amount of caffeine per cup, and it packs quite the punch. It's bold and malty, with serious strength. Add milk and sugar for a morning treat.
- Da Hong Pao: This deep roasted oolong tea is perfect for when you need clarity, energy and focus.
-
Mint Moringa: A fresh herbal blend for when you want a ritual without the buzz. It provides natural energy and a wellness boost without the caffeine crash.

A few tips
- Sip slowly. Tea is built for it, and the pause is half the point.
- Try a second steep. Good loose leaf can be brewed more than once, so one scoop goes a long way.
- Don’t swap everything at once. Replace one cup a day and see how it feels.
Real leaf, a pot, and ten quiet minutes won’t fix your whole day. But it’s a nicer way to spend 9:20.
